Bowling Green, KY – The weather has thrown a little bit of a wrench into the plans for the WKU Women’s Tennis team. Their home match against Samford, which was originally lined up for Wednesday, February 19, 2025, has been postponed. But don’t worry! Fans can mark their calendars for the new date: Wednesday, February 26, 2025, with the match set to begin at 12 p.m. CT.
The Lady Toppers are currently enjoying a decent season with a 4-3 record thus far, and they’re eager to get back on the court. They have a busy week ahead as they will return to action on Friday, February 21, 2025, when they face off against Belmont in Nashville, Tennessee, starting at 4 p.m. CT.
Just a reminder for those keeping up with the action, the WKU Women’s Tennis team had to cancel a match against North Alabama that was scheduled for Saturday, February 15, 2025. That cancellation certainly left fans wanting more tennis excitement!
In the meantime, the Lady Toppers faced some tough competition in their last outing against Austin Peay State University. The match took place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the Warren County Tennis Center, and despite their early success, WKU came up short with a final score of 4-3. This was a significant win for Austin Peay, marking their first victory of the spring season.
During that nail-biting match against Austin Peay, WKU managed to clinch the early doubles point by winning all their matches on courts one through three, showing off their teamwork and skill. However, they couldn’t maintain that momentum throughout the singles matches.
Fans were treated to some outstanding performances from both teams. Sophia Baranov from Austin Peay snagged the first point for her team by defeating Rachel Hermanova with a score of 6-1, 6-4. Meanwhile, Denise Torrealba also delivered for the visitors, besting Sofia Blanco with a clear 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Asia Fontana of Austin Peay managed to secure a tight win over Mia Miranda, finishing off the match with a score of 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. The final nail in the coffin for WKU came from Luca Bohlen, who turned the tides and secured the victory for Austin Peay against Mariana Zegada with a score of 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.
As for the doubles match outcomes, here’s how they unfolded:
