WKU Student Curates Wes Anderson Film Screening Series

BOWLING GREEN, Ky- A Western Kentucky University (WKU) student has taken the innovative initiative to launch a Wes Anderson film screening series. This series commenced with Anderson’s inaugural film “Bottle Rocket” and is planned to conclude with his eighth offering, “The Grand Budapest Hotel”.

Nico Silverthorn’s Admirable Effort

Sophomore Nico Silverthorn, a Film Production major at WKU, is the brain behind this unique endeavor. He has been an avid fan of Anderson’s works, with childhood memories filled with the director’s distinctive narratives. Silverthorn’s father introduced him to the world of Anderson’s films, an experience that left an indelible mark on his perception of cinematic art.

A tribute to Anderson’s genius, Silverthorn’s series aims to take the audience on a journey through the celebrated director’s evolving creativity over the years. Silverthorn speaks positively about the learning potential the series provides for the community. “

“I think the community can just take away that it’s fun just to really sit down and watch different filmographies of certain directors.”

The Unique Style of Wes Anderson

Wes Anderson, a renowned name in the film industry, is notable for his comedy-dramas enveloped in a unique, symmetrical visual style. He often employs ensemble casts and frequently collaborates with the same actors, including Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, and several others. The director’s subsequent films include “Isle of Dogs”, “The French Dispatch”, and “Asteroid City”.

In his endeavors as a student filmmaker, Silverthorn finds inspiration in Anderson’s works. However, he is equally determined to bring his original perspective to the fore.

Upcoming Screenings at WKU

The next film to be presented in the series is “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” scheduled for Wednesday, February 21. All screenings are organized at Jody Richards Hall and commence at 8 p.m.

Engaging the Community in Art
