Erica Houge Takes the Spotlight

One of the standout stars of the week was none other than freshman sensation Erica Houge. Her talent shone through as she was awarded the coveted Freshman of the Week title for the very first time this season. Houge’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, guiding WKU to a fantastic 2-1 series victory over Kennesaw State.

During this series, Houge made her mark by pitching an impressive 7.2 innings and maintaining a striking 0.00 ERA. That’s right, not a single run crossed the plate on her watch! She allowed only four hits and just one walk, all while racking up five strikeouts. To cap it off, she also pitched a perfect inning against Lipscomb earlier in the week, adding another strikeout to her impressive stats.

As if that wasn’t enough, Houge demonstrated her prowess on the mound once again with a save on Saturday, bringing her total to a remarkable four saves this season, extending her lead in the conference.

A Milestone Achieved

WKU Softball not only celebrated Houge’s accomplishments but also reached a monumental milestone: their 800th win in program history! This significant achievement highlights the hard work and dedication of the players and coaching staff over the years.

In addition to their victory against Kennesaw State, WKU had a successful outing against Lipscomb, where they claimed an 8-3 victory. The team combined for an impressive total of 11 hits. Fans cheered as Annie White and Randi Drinnon belted home runs, igniting the scoreboard and boosting team morale.

Strong Contributions from the Team

WKU’s scoring against Lipscomb was a team effort. White kicked off the offense with an exciting triple, followed by Charlotte Herron’s single that brought in an RBI. Other key contributions came from Maci Masters, Morgan Sharpe, and Drinnon, all of whom played pivotal roles in building an early lead. By the sixth inning, the Hilltoppers had established a solid 5-0 advantage before Lipscomb managed to put three runs on the board.
