Additionally, two new certificates from the Gordon Ford College of Business were approved: a certificate in business fundamentals and a certificate in business law. These courses will be available in the fall and are tailored to meet the needs of today’s job market. The business fundamentals certificate was created in response to a notable decline in enrollment for the business fundamentals minor, while the business law certificate addresses the increasing need for legal knowledge among business students pursuing entrepreneurial ventures.

In an equally exciting announcement, WKU’s online RN to BSN program is gearing up for a broader launch this fall. This program will offer associate degree holders in nursing the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing while continuing to work in their field. To begin with, the initial enrollment will be capped at 20 spots, and they’re expected to fill up quickly!

The university has recently been recognized as one of the top institutions for online learning, ranking 71st in the U.S. News and World Report for online bachelor’s programs, an impressive jump from 90th place the previous year. The online undergraduate business program even ranked 41st nationally, showcasing the quality of education available.

With over 80 online degree options that are regionally accredited, WKU is ensuring that education is accessible to more students than ever before! In line with this forward-thinking approach, State Rep. Michael Meredith has proposed a bill that would enable WKU to offer up to five research doctoral degree programs, which could help the university pursue R2 Carnegie Classification status. Attaining this status would likely improve WKU’s faculty quality, research funding, and overall profile beyond Kentucky.

As WKU continues to develop advanced degrees, including the Doctor of Education and Doctor of Nursing Practice, the future looks brighter than ever. The journey to achieve R2 status will take several years, but with the progress made in the past decade, many are optimistic about what lies ahead.
