WKU School of Media and Communication to Host Renowned Photojournalists for Lecture Series

Bowling Green, Kentucky – The Western Kentucky University (WKU) School of Media and Communication will bring together two highly admired alumni for an exclusive evening, dedicated to their respective careers in photojournalism. Entitled ‘Roommates: From Western to the White House’, this event is part of the WKU School of Media John B. Gaines Family Lecture Series.

Guest Speakers

Jabin Botsford and Demetrius Freeman, former WKU roommates, will return to their alma mater on Wednesday, March 13. They have carved successful careers within the realms of political photojournalism, specifically marking their influence over the past two presidential campaigns.

Event Breakdown

A reception for a photo exhibition showcasing their extraordinary body of work will kick off the evening at 6:15 p.m. in the Jody Richards Hall Gallery. This will be followed by a presentation from both speakers, starting at 7:00 p.m., in the Jody Richards Hall Auditorium.

About the Speakers

Jabin Botsford

Botsford holds a degree in photojournalism and sociology from WKU. He began his extensive work at the Washington Post in 2015, providing important visual narratives throughout former President Donald Trump’s first presidential campaign. His undeniable artistry was recognized when he was named White House News Photographers Association Photographer of the Year in both 2017 and 2019.

Demetrius Freeman

Freeman, another accomplished WKU alumnus, boasts a BA in photojournalism with a minor in political science. He started at the Washington Post in 2020, where he covered President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign. Following Biden’s victory, Freeman transitioned to capturing his time at the White House.

Exhibition Details

The Gallery will be exhibiting over 60 photographs from both the esteemed photographers. The exhibition will be open to the public from March 13 to April 19, between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., on days when the campus is operational.
