Bowling Green is buzzing with excitement as WKU Football has officially welcomed nine new players to its roster for the 2025 recruiting class! This announcement was made on January 2, 2025, giving fans plenty to cheer about as the new season approaches. With these fresh signings, Western Kentucky is strengthening its lineup just in time for some thrilling football action.
The nine new players join an impressive group of 14 who committed during December’s early signing period, making a grand total of 23 new additions to the squad. Out of these, the December group included nine defensive players and five offensive players. With the latest signees, the offensive side is getting a boost with six new talents, while the defense welcomes an additional three players. It’s clear that the coaching staff is determined to enhance the team’s competitive edge.
We’ve got a mix of experience and youthful spirit coming in on the offensive side. Kody Epps, a redshirt senior wide receiver from BYU, stands out with his impressive track record — in 28 games, he tallied 819 yards and seven touchdowns, proving he’s ready to make a significant impact. Additionally, La’Vell Wright is joining as a redshirt senior running back from Austin Peay, where he led his team in rushing yards with 609 and five touchdowns last season.
Another notable newcomer is Jackson West, a tight end from Florida State, recognized as the Most Improved Player for 2023. He’s looking to bounce back strong after missing a season due to injury. Meanwhile, Jemeil Jackson brings his leadership skills from Central Michigan, where he not only served as team captain but also earned accolades as a two-time All-CCA All-South Region selection. The offensive line sees some fresh talent with Jaylin Rogers and Max Thurston, both offering versatility and skill to bolster the protection and create running lanes.
On the defensive side, three new players are ready to make their mark. Jayden Gray, a redshirt senior defensive lineman from Louisiana Tech, adds experience with notable stats in tackles and sacks during his time at Louisiana Tech. Dominic Oliver, coming from San Diego State, is another strong asset, already having made 18 tackles and 1.5 sacks in his previous season. Rounding out the defensive trio is Montreze Smith Jr., a sophomore linebacker from Duke, who was a standout during high school, showcasing his ability to read the game and make impactful plays.
The complete WKU Football 2025 signing class brings a fantastic blend of talented freshmen and seasoned transfers across various positions. Coach Tyson Helton is feeling optimistic about what this new talent can bring to the table. With such a diverse mix of skill sets and experiences, this year’s squad looks poised for success on the field.
