Boca Raton, FL – WKU Football Gears Up for Bowl Game
Monday in Boca Raton was not just the start of a new week; it was a moment of excitement for the Western Kentucky University (WKU) football team as they prepared for their upcoming bowl game against James Madison University (JMU). The team’s focus was palpable during their second and final practice of the trip, held at Boca Raton High School. This practice served as the last opportunity to fine-tune any specifics before heading into the highly anticipated match scheduled for Wednesday.
A Special Moment for Kisean Johnson
Among the players, senior wide receiver Kisean Johnson stood out, as he faces his last collegiate game and his very first bowl appearance. With emotions running high, Johnson reflected on his journey: “It’s just been a great experience. Last year, I was on my grandmother’s couch around this time, watching other teams play bowls, thinking, ‘man, I want to be in that position.’” He continued, “By the grace of God, I played in the championship last weekend and now I have this opportunity in the Boca Raton Bowl. I’m just blessed to be here and soaking it all in.”
Keyshawn Swanson’s Last Chance for a Win
Another senior, Keyshawn Swanson, hails from West Florida and has prior bowl experience from his time at Troy University. Now, as he dons the colors of WKU, he expressed his eagerness to finish strong. “I want to go out with a win in my last year and finish my career on a high note,” said Swanson. “Three rings overall would be fantastic, plus, it’s important for me to show the younger guys what victory feels like.”
Giving Back to the Community
While most of the team engaged in intense practice, a few of the athletes took some time to visit the Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital. They generously handed out ticket vouchers for Wednesday’s game, showcasing the giving spirit that WKU athletics is known for. It’s an ethos that extends beyond the football field, emphasizing community involvement.
Tight end River Helms shared his thoughts on the experience, saying, “We’re blessed people, so it feels wonderful to come out here and connect with the community, make them smile, and show appreciation for their hard work.” The players took joy not just in giving away tickets, but also in spreading cheer to kids and their families who were at the hospital.
Upcoming Events: Joint Media Availability & Pep Rally
As part of the week’s festivities, WKU and JMU teams are set to participate in joint media availability on Tuesday at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. This will be an excellent opportunity for fans to catch a glimpse of both teams and get in on the pre-game excitement. Later in the evening, a joint pep rally will take place at the Mizner Park Amphitheater, promising fun and enthusiasm from both fan bases as they rally behind their teams.
With the big game looming, the atmosphere in Boca Raton is electric. Both teams, filled with determination and pride, are ready to give their all as they head toward the Boca Raton Bowl. Fans, players, and community members alike are brimming with excitement, making this a memorable event for everyone involved.
As Wednesday approaches, all eyes will be on the field, and the hopes of WKU supporters will soar high. Let’s wish the Tops the best as they prepare to leave it all on the field!
