Bowling Green’s WKU Football Welcomes New Stars to 2025 Signing Class

Bowling Green, KY – The excitement continues to build for WKU Football as they announce the addition of two talented players to their growing 2025 signing class. With the recent signings of Mackavelli Malotumau and Trace Patterson on January 13, 2025, the class now boasts a whopping total of 43 members!

Mackavelli Malotumau: A Defensive Powerhouse

First up is the formidable defensive lineman,Mackavelli Malotumau. Standing at an impressive 6’1″ and weighing in at 290 lbs, Malotumau has made a name for himself across several programs. Hailing from the sunny shores of Oceanside, California, this senior has previous experience playing at notable schools such as Nevada and Utah Tech.

During his time at Nevada, he showcased his skills in 19 games, racking up a total of 25 tackles and even earning a sack. Last season, he continued to shine, participating in 12 games and starting in eight, gaining 14 tackles. As a freshman at Utah Tech, Malotumau did not hold back either, finishing the season with eight tackles, which included three tackles for loss and two sacks. His high school stats are equally commendable, ending his senior year with 67 total tackles and 7.5 sacks, and even participated in the 31st Annual Alex Spanos All-Star Classic, highlighting his promising potential.

Trace Patterson: A Tight End to Watch

Next is redshirt sophomore tight end, Trace Patterson. This 6’5″, 240 lbs player from Sparks, Nevada made his presence known at Feather River College, where he honed his skills to become a valuable asset. Though he didn’t hit the field in 2023, 2024 was a different story, as Patterson appeared in 10 games, catching 39 passes for a solid 326 yards and scoring three touchdowns. His impressive performance didn’t go unnoticed, as he earned All-Conference honors in the Northern California Football Conference.

Patterson’s high school days were just as impressive, with 22 catches for 300 yards, four touchdowns, and notable defensive play that earned him First Team All-Region honors twice. With such a strong background, Patterson is surely a player to keep an eye on in the upcoming seasons!

A Diverse and Robust Signing Class

With the new additions of Malotumau and Patterson, WKU’s 2025 signing class is shaping up to be one of great diversity and talent. Among the standout 43-member roster, there are 19 offensive players, 21 defensive players, and one specialist. Prior to these latest signings, 16 players were announced just a few days earlier, on January 10, 2025. This initial group featured a robust mix of talent, including 15 players transferring from Division I institutions, notably with 11 players coming from FBS programs and four from FCS schools.

Some of the other notable names joining the Hilltoppers in 2025 include: Brandon Buckhaulter (R-Sr., WR, UAB/Ole Miss), John Cannon (R-Sr., K, USF), Jackson Dialls (Fr., OL, Frederick Douglass HS), Jordan Donald (Fr., LB, Perry HS), and Kody Epps (R-Sr., WR, BYU). With such a talented roster in hand, the future looks bright for WKU Football.
