News Summary

Western Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team has secured a significant addition with the transfer of 7-foot forward Noah Boyde from LSU. Announced on April 14, 2025, this acquisition is part of a larger roster overhaul aimed at rejuvenating the team after a challenging season. Boyde joins several other promising players, and despite his recovery from an ACL injury, his impressive stats from prior seasons indicate he could make a substantial impact on the Hilltoppers. Excitement surrounds the upcoming season as WKU aims for success with its revamped lineup.

Big Changes for WKU Men’s Basketball With Newest Addition

Bowling Green, KY – The Western Kentucky University men’s basketball team is making waves as they secure a key transfer from LSU in the shape of Noah Boyde, a towering 7-foot forward/center. The announcement came on April 14, 2025, and fans are buzzing with excitement!

Welcome to the Hilltopper Family

Boyde isn’t just any player; he’s the fourth addition to WKU’s roster through the transfer portal. Joining him are some promising talents including forwards Bryant Selebangue from McNeese State and Louie Semona from Stonehill, as well as guard Cam Haffner who hails from Evansville. Together, these new faces are slated to breathe new life into the Hilltopper squad.

A Roster Overhaul in the Works

WKU’s head coach, Hank Plona, and his dedicated staff are hard at work refashioning the team following significant losses due to graduation and player transfers after a challenging season that ended with a record of 17 wins and 15 losses (8-10 in Conference USA). The upcoming season promises to be an era of rejuvenation and hope, and bringing in Boyde is a crucial step in that direction.

Boyde’s Journey to WKU

However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing for Boyde. This promising athlete is in the process of recovering from an injury, having undergone ACL surgery before his time at LSU. Last season, he managed to play just a handful of games – five to be exact – where he averaged 1.4 points and 0.2 rebounds while logging only 12 minutes on the court.

Before donning the LSU jersey, Boyde made a name for himself at McCook Community College in Nebraska. During his time there, he showcased his skills and was a standout player over two seasons, averaging 11.2 points and an impressive 8.5 rebounds per game. In the 2022-23 season, he stood out even more, leading the entire National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX in rebounds, which speaks volumes about his capabilities on the court.

Stats That Speak for Themselves

While he may not have had the chance to shine at LSU, Boyde’s previous stats tell a different story. In his sophomore season (2023-24), although hampered by injury, he still managed an average of 12.6 points and 6.2 rebounds, hitting an impressive shooting percentage of 53.3% from the field. His freshman year at McCook also saw him contributing significantly with averages of 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game.

Recognized Potential

His talent did not go unnoticed, as Boyde was recognized on the prestigious FAB 50 list of junior college freshmen compiled by JucoRecruiting.com and participated in the highly regarded JUCO Advocate showcase in Houston, establishing himself as a player to watch.

Exciting Times Ahead

But Boyde isn’t the only newcomer on the roster. Freshmen shooting guard Armelo Boone from Woodford County and forward Lawson Rice from Butler County are also joining the ranks, signaling that there’s a palpable excitement surrounding WKU basketball as they gear up for the upcoming season.

As the Hilltoppers prepare for their next chapter, fans are eager to see how these new faces will blend with existing players and hopefully lead the team to success. The journey might be new and challenging, but with talents like Noah Boyde stepping into the spotlight, there’s no doubt that WKU basketball has plenty to look forward to.
