Team Triumphs

The WKU baseball team is having a phenomenal start this season, currently boasting an impressive record of 19-1. They recently completed a three-game series sweep against Lafayette, which is a huge boost for their momentum. In the first game of the series, the Hilltoppers celebrated a solid victory, finishing with a score of 9-3.

In this game, it was all about team effort. Ryan Wideman and teammate Camden Ross came in strong, driving in runs right off the bat in the first inning. Then Ethan Lizama made his mark with a three-run home run in the second inning. To cap it off, Drew Barragan helped seal the deal with a two-RBI single, and they sealed the first victory thanks to an RBI single from Wideman in the eighth.

Game two of the series was just as exciting, with the Hilltoppers securing an 8-1 victory. They scored early, thanks to a run from Carlos Vasquez in the first inning. But that was just setting the stage for something special. In the third inning, Ryan Wideman and Kyle Hayes both hit back-to-back home runs, which really fired up the team and the fans alike.

Doubleheader Dominance

During the doubleheader against Lafayette, the team collectively amassed an incredible 29 hits, while racking up 17 runs and 16 RBIs. Wideman and Lizama were particularly sensational, combining for 10 hits and 10 RBIs—a true showcase of their skills!

To top it all off, Drew Whalen also shined, setting personal highs with 5.0 innings pitched and eight strikeouts in the first game of the doubleheader. The excitement is palpable, as WKU started their season strong with a 5-0 record, the second time in three seasons under coach Marc Rardin.

Up Next: Murray State
