WKU Alumni Association Appoints Nine New Board of Directors Members
Bowling Green, Kentucky – New Board of Directors Appointed
On Friday, Bowling Green-based Western Kentucky University (WKU) Alumni Association announced the appointment of nine new Board of Directors members. Representing an array of classes and professional backgrounds, the new members will serve a three-year term, which is set to conclude in June 2027.
The Alumni Association in its announcement highlighted the significant role the Board of Directors plays, expressing that it “plays a crucial role to inspire alumni to connect, engage and pay it forward to the Western Kentucky University community.”
A Diverse Group of Alumni Join the Board
Each of the appointees possesses a unique background and perspective, bringing rich diversity to the Board of Directors. The new members, in alphabetical order, include:
- Carlos D’Angelo Bailey, Bowling Green, Kentucky resident and a Lifetime Member of the WKU Alumni Association, is a 2000 graduate of the Potter College of Arts & Letters.
- Phillip W. Barnhouse Jr., a resident of Mount Washington, Kentucky, is a 1992 graduate of the Gordon Ford College of Business and a Lifetime Member of the WKU Alumni Association.
- Dr. David Alan Ciochetty, also from Bowling Green, Kentucky, is a 2010 graduate of the Gordon Ford College of Business and a Lifetime Member of the WKU Alumni Association.
- Shelly Glasscock Compton, a 1996 graduate of the Gordon Ford College of Business from Bowling Green, Kentucky, is an Annual Member of the WKU Alumni Association.
- Matthew T. Garrett, a resident of Glasgow, Kentucky, is a 2008 graduate of the Gordon Ford College of Business and a Lifetime Member of the WKU Alumni Association.
- Kelley Boothe Griggs of Gallatin, Tennessee, is a 2012 graduate of the Potter College of Arts & Letters and an Annual Member of the WKU Alumni Association.
- Dr. Corie Morell Martin, a 2-time graduate of WKU and an Annual Member of the WKU Alumni Association, hails from Bowling Green, Kentucky. She graduated from the Potter College of Arts & Letters in 1996 and the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences in 2015.
- Lori Mitchell, a 2004 graduate of the Potter College of Arts & Letters from Nashville, Tennessee, is a Lifetime Member of the WKU Alumni Association.
- Jean-Marie Lawson Spann, a Union, Kentucky resident, is a 1999 graduate of the Potter College of Arts & Letters and an Annual Member of the WKU Alumni Association.
Three Ex-Officio Roles Appointed
Alongside the new Board of Directors members, three individuals are set to join the board in ex-officio roles. The positions are specifically for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council Representative, the Young Alumni Council Representative, and the Student Alumni Ambassador President.
- Alexis Gonzalez-Lopez of Ashland, Kentucky, who will serve as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council Representative, is a 2011 graduate of the Potter College of Arts & Letters and an Annual Member of the WKU Alumni Association.
- Douglas Stratton, a resident of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and a Lifetime Member of the WKU Alumni Association, will serve as the Young Alumni Council Representative. He is a 2014 and 2017 graduate of the Gordon Ford College of Business.
- Rory Kiser hailing from Bardstown, Kentucky, is the current Student Alumni Ambassador President and will represent that role on the Board. She is expected to graduate from Potter College of Arts & Letters in May 2025.
Upcoming Term for Board of Directors
The WKU Alumni Association Board of Directors comprises 30 members. The incoming members will commence their three-year terms during the July board meeting.
