It is with a heavy heart that Bowling Green, Kentucky bids farewell to one of its cherished residents, Wilma Lea Cochran, who passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on November 8, 2024, in her home. Born on January 20, 1939, Wilma was a beacon of love and kindness in her community, where she touched countless lives.
Wilma was the beloved daughter of the late George and Anna Conover Alford, a family legacy that shaped her character and values. Sadly, she is preceded in death by her son, Perry Cochran, as well as three brothers and six sisters. Surrounded by a loving family, Wilma created a warm home filled with laughter and support.
In her early career, Wilma worked in retail and had notable stints at Castner Knott and Dillards. Many locals remember her friendly smile and helpful nature, which made shopping a pleasure. However, it was in her later years that she truly shined as a matriarch, dedicating herself to nurturing her family and devoting endless love to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wilma’s legacy lives on through her loving husband, Richard Cochran, and their three children: Debbie Parrish (Rick), Kevin Cochran (Shelly), and Randal Cochran (Sarah). The family tree blossoms further with nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, along with several loving nieces and nephews. It’s evident that family was everything to Wilma, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
A visitation for friends and family will be held on Thursday, November 14, from 9 until 11 a.m. at the J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. to celebrate Wilma’s extraordinary life. After the service, she will be laid to rest at the Bowling Green Gardens, a final resting place where family and friends can visit and remember the cheerful spirit of this extraordinary woman.
As the community gathers to honor Wilma’s memory, it’s clear that she will be remembered not just for her time in retail, but for her unwavering love, her infectious laughter, and the warmth she brought into every life she touched. Wilma Lea Cochran was more than just a name; she was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, and friend who embodied the very essence of family values.
Bowling Green has lost a gem, but the love and memories she shared with her family and friends will continue to shine brightly. Those who knew Wilma take comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on, inspiring others to embrace life with the same passion and kindness she shared throughout her journey.
