In a thrilling showdown on Thursday, January 23, 2025, the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers put on an impressive performance, taking down the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters with a score of 69-61. The game was held at the lively E.A. Diddle Arena, where a spirited crowd of around 4,313 fans, mostly students, came out to support their team.

Extending the Streak

This victory marks the Lady Toppers’ fourth consecutive win, giving them a solid record of 13-5 overall and 4-2 in Conference USA. Meanwhile, the Louisiana Tech team, though putting up a good fight, fell to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Quick Start and Early Control

From the get-go, Western Kentucky asserted their dominance on the court. They charged ahead with a remarkable 14-1 run, quickly amassing a lead that reached 19-5 within just five minutes. Zsofia Telegdy was an early highlight, contributing eight points during this initial scoring run, energizing the crowd.

However, Louisiana Tech wasn’t going down without a fight. With a flourish, they rallied toward the end of the first quarter, executing an 11-2 run to close the gap to 27-24 by the quarter’s end. It was clear that this game was going to be competitive.

Second Quarter Surge

In the second quarter, Western Kentucky regained control with a powerful 12-0 run, extending their lead to 39-24. Yet, the Lady Techsters made a comeback as halftime approached, trimming the deficit to 39-32 following an impressive 8-0 run of their own.

Staying Ahead

As the third quarter unfolded, WKU maintained their grip on the game. The Toppers ended this period on a high note, finishing with a 54-43 lead, thanks to a timely three-pointer from Mackenzie Chatfield that sent the fans into a frenzy.

Fourth Quarter Tensions

The final quarter saw Louisiana Tech pushing hard, managing to narrow the gap to just three points at one moment. Despite the mounting pressure, Western Kentucky dug deep and held their ground, keeping the win secure.
