WCPS Summer Feeding Program Set to Launch in June
County Public Schools prepares to feed children during summer vacation
BOWLING GREEN, KY. – The school year comes to its inevitable end, and that means one thing for Warren County Public Schools – the initiation of their Summer Feeding Program launching in June. Kelly Holt, the appointed Director of Nutrition and Dining for WCPS, has confirmed that the initiative is generously funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, allowing children access to meals during the summer months as part of a broad nationwide program.
End of School Year Doesn’t Mean End of Access to Nutritious Food
“School may be out, however, that doesn’t mean our students’ necessity for good nutritious meals is on break,” Holt emphasised. “We serve children, 18 or younger, from any school and even visitors from out of state who are in to spend time with family. We solely aim to provide kids with nutritious food during summer.”
Summer Feeding Program Evades Financial Stress for Parents
The Summer Feeding Program is a substantial boon for parents, helping many maintain a lower household budget during summer. Holt, a parent of three, shared insights into the financial pressure of feeding children, “Children’s meals can indeed tally up a hefty sum. Our program, offering free meals, would lift some of the financial load off the parents’ shoulders.”
Tempting Menu Planned for the Summer Feeding Program
While offering help to parents, the program also plans to delight children’s taste buds. The menu for this summer comprises student favorites such as classic school pizza, corndogs, burgers, and chicken sandwiches.
Program Locations and Schedule
Primary locations for the program this summer are Jennings Creed and Bristow Elementary, commencing on June 3. Additionally, starting June 5, a bus will also follow a pre-set route to deliver lunches. The Summer Feeding Program will run Monday through Friday. Further details on timings and bus routes are available on the WCPS Facebook page.
Offering nutritious food options for children during summer vacation, this program is expected to contribute significantly to the well-being of children within the region.
