Bowling Green, KY- Folks driving down the William H. Natcher Parkway have likely seen the hustle and bustle of construction on Brookwood Drive. The brand new Warren Elementary School is gradually taking shape despite the damp spring and boiling summer.
The main guy in charge of finances and operations at Warren County Public Schools, Chris McIntyre, claimed that everything is running smoothly at the construction site. “We’re about halfway there. There’s been a bunch of building going on this summer and you can already see some final touches being made. Next up, we’ll start on the building exterior and pretty soon you’ll see windows going in.”
Once done, this spectacular new building is set to house up to 850 students. Not only will this take some pressure off other tightly-packed schools in our area, but it will also allow the old Warren Elementary to be transformed into a shiny new preschool center. This is absolutely huge for our community, folks.
McIntyre expressed his elation at the project’s progress. “We’re lucky to be in such a tight-knit community that supports developments like this. The number of kids enrolling in schools here is growing like crazy, about 400 to 500 new kids each year. The property values here make it possible for us to keep expanding as we need.”
Although it will somewhat mirror other schools in the district, Warren Elementary holds a few secrets up its sleeves. McIntyre alluded to some special touches inside the school. “We’re keeping details under wraps until the grand reveal, but I can share that we’re going for a retro 1930s-40s exterior look, and the inside will have a fun dragon theme! We’re hoping the wee ones will fall in love with it the moment they step inside.”
What’s more, the building will focus on keeping things green and supporting local products. McIntyre highlighted the school’s commitment to eco-friendliness. “Just like Greenwood High School, we’re incorporating hempwood, which not only lasts 50 years, but also reduces maintenance costs and the carbon footprint. Plus, it’s a proud product of Kentucky!”
As of now, the exact date for the school’s grand debut is under wraps, but we know for sure that the doors will open in August 2025. In the meantime, we’re counting down the days to the first day of school in the county on August 7. For the full academic calendar, pop over to the district’s website.
Please drive safely and give our hard-working construction teams room to do their thing.
