In a proactive approach to disaster preparedness, Warren County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has announced its participation in a statewide tornado drill slated for March 6. This effort underscores the strong commitment Warren County EMA has to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its residents.
The drill will commence precisely at 9:07 a.m. As part of the procedure, the County Outdoor Warning Siren system (COWS) will be tested. Importantly, the public should note that the sirens will not be tested this coming Friday, March 1, aligning with the special drill timing instead.
The EMA is requesting community involvement in the drill, urging citizens to review their own family tornado plans. The drill highlights the importance of being well-prepared in case of a tornado, with the aim of instating effective response protocols and minimizing potential harm.
The upcoming COWS test aims to check the functioning and coverage of the warning system. It is an integral part of the tornado drill, ensuring the reliability of the system during genuine emergencies. The sirens are specifically designed to alert individuals outdoors, urging them to seek immediate shelter and gather more information about the potential hazard.
To focus on the statewide tornado drill, the County EMA has decided not to run the regular tests of the COWS that are usually conducted on Fridays. The EMA stressed the change in the siren testing schedule is a temporary measure implemented solely due to the impending statewide drill.
The Director of the EMA reinforced the significance of such drills, stating, “Preparation is key during any hazardous event. These drills help keep our emergency response skills sharp and enhance our ability to protect the citizens of Warren County during potentially dangerous weather conditions.”
Engaging the community in disaster preparedness activities like the upcoming tornado drill can significantly promote readiness and resilience. By learning the appropriate responses to a tornado warning, individuals have a better chance of staying safe during real emergencies.
The Warren County EMA encourages everyone to take the upcoming statewide tornado drill seriously as an essential exercise in disaster preparedness. Their participation goes a long way in enhancing individual and community safety against the devastating impact of tornadoes.
