Warren County Public Library Launches Summer Reading Program

Bowling Green – Thriving with a vision to encourage both children and adults to cultivate their knack for reading, the Warren County Public Library (WCPL) inaugurated its Summer Reading Program. The kickoff event took place at the renowned Corvette Museum, featuring several prominent personalities from Warren County imparting an aura of a collective community endeavor to foster literacy.

A Gathering to Inspire and Encourage Reading

Laura Beth Fox-Ezell, the WCPL Executive Program Manager, expressed her aspirations for this event as a platform to instill reading habits in kids whilst relating it to excitement and joy of learning. She emphasized that the mission of such an event is to offer kids a stimulating and engaging way to spend their time during summer vacation where they find reading a pleasure and not just a mundane task.

A Committed Crowd and Community

With a turnout of approximately four thousand people, Fox-Ezell emphasized the importance of community participation in nurturing the success of such educational endeavors. She said, “We’re really just bringing the whole community together to celebrate each other, and really trying to get kids interacting with local heroes in the community and local leaders in the community”. Touching moments were galore as children conversed and interacted with local first responders present at the venue. Adding a fun quotient, there was a live petting zoo and Batman for children to meet and greet.

Beyond Bookshelves: Cultivating Community Engagement

Moreover, Fox-Ezell underlined that the program does more than just hosting events, it serves as a hub to publicize other local events transpiring in Warren County. She excitedly spoke about connecting parents and caregivers with plentiful opportunities in the community such as free resources, free classes, and free programs aimed towards their children. She said, “We’re handing out calendars that include free summer activities all summer long, so they’re going home with a whole plan for the rest of the summer to spend with their kid(s) that involves the library and these amazing community partners.”

The Summer Reading Program: A Venture for All Ages

Although, the program mainly targets school-aged children, people of various ages can find something of interest. Fox-Ezell detailed that there are numerous events lined up for teens and adults as well over the summer. From pottery classes for teens to movie nights catered towards adults, the program promises to offer interesting activities that cater to everyone’s tastes and preferences.
