Community Safety Initiative Seeks Volunteers in Bowling Green, Ky

Bowling Green, Ky: Volunteers Needed for Community Safety Initiative

The American Red Cross of South Central Kentucky and HOTEL INC are teaming up to help the Delafield neighborhood by providing essential safety equipment. Their upcoming initiative aims to install free smoke alarms, weather radios, and first aid kits in 450 homes within the community. However, to make this important project come to life, the organizers are calling for 50 to 60 volunteers to assist with the installations.

Event Details and Schedule

This community-focused initiative is scheduled to take place from October 21 to 25. Volunteers can sign up for various shifts that run from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Each volunteer shift will include a break for lunch from noon to 1 p.m. As a token of appreciation, all participating volunteers will receive a free T-shirt to commemorate their contribution to the community.

Training and Responsibilities

Prior to commencing their tasks, volunteers will receive training at the start of each shift. This training will ensure that everyone is well-prepared for their roles. During the initiative, teams of two or three volunteers will work closely together to enhance safety in the homes they visit. Their responsibilities will include:

  • Installing smoke alarms and weather radios
  • Providing fire and tornado safety education
  • Assisting families in creating an escape plan
  • Gathering demographic information from families

The infusion of these resources is intended to increase safety awareness and preparedness among families in the area. Having working smoke alarms and weather radios can be crucial in emergency situations, providing timely alerts to keep families safe.
