Bowling Green, Kentucky, has a reason to celebrate as local talent Upton Stout, a defensive back for the WKU Football team, has been officially invited to showcase his skills at the highly anticipated 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. This prestigious event is scheduled to take place in Indianapolis from February 24 to March 3. It’s a golden opportunity for Stout, who has been turning heads throughout his collegiate football career.
This past season, Stout proved he is a force to be reckoned with in Conference USA, earning First Team All-CUSA honors for his impressive performances. Playing in only seven games after struggling with injuries, he still managed to rack up noteworthy stats, including 52 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and an impressive 1 interception. Not to mention, he also had a solid pass breakup and generated 3 quarterback hurries during the 2023 season.
Stout’s skills didn’t go unnoticed as he was named the American Team Player of the Week during practices for the Reese’s Senior Bowl, highlighting his ability to shine even beyond regular-season play.
Despite facing challenges with injuries that sidelined him for five games, Stout managed to finish the 2023 season strong. He recorded 29 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and a commendable 1 fumble recovery. His standout moment came when he not only intercepted a pass but also returned it a remarkable 53 yards for a touchdown against Houston Christian. Adding to his highlight reel, he made another splash with a fumble recovery return of 16 yards for a touchdown in the regular-season finale versus FIU.
Stout’s journey to success at WKU began when he transferred from North Texas, and he didn’t waste any time making an impact. In his debut season with the Hilltoppers in 2022, he started 11 games and made waves by returning an interception for a touchdown during his very first game against Austin Peay. He concluded that season by racking up 4 interceptions, including one in the New Orleans Bowl against South Alabama, and tallied 44 tackles, with a career-high of 8 tackles in the New Orleans Bowl itself.
His exemplary play earned him honors as a Freshman All-American Honorable Mention and Conference USA Honorable Mention.
With a total of 329 prospects invited this year, Stout is one of only two players representing Conference USA at the combine. This opportunity puts him in the spotlight among top-tier talent from across the nation, where he can showcase his skills in front of NFL coaches and scouts.
The excitement reaches new heights as defensive backs will take to the drills starting at 2 p.m. CT on February 28. Fans eagerly await to see how Stout will perform, as he aims to secure his spot in the professional arena of football.
