The Meredith family from Southern Kentucky has made a significant impact this holiday season by leading a Toys For Tots drive. With nearly 40 donation boxes organized across Med Center Health hospitals, the initiative collected over 300 toys, benefiting more than 100 children in Warren County. Their efforts included the first dropbox at the Medical Center at Albany and extended community support to Logan County. The family’s dedication to volunteering exemplifies the true spirit of giving back during the holidays.
In the heart of Southern Kentucky, a remarkable holiday initiative has brought smiles to countless children. The Meredith family, consisting of parents Chris and Kelly, along with their daughter Darby, took it upon themselves to spearhead this year’s Toys For Tots donation drive, covering many locations throughout the area. With great enthusiasm, they organized nearly 40 donation boxes at various Med Center Health hospitals, ensuring that the spirit of giving blossomed this festive season.
This year’s drive marked a special milestone as it introduced the very first Toys For Tots dropbox at the Medical Center at Albany in Clinton County. Although Chris Meredith initially had some doubts about the box’s success due to the lower foot traffic in the area, the outcome pleasantly surprised him with an overwhelming number of donated toys. Across all of Med Center Health’s facilities in Bowling Green, over 300 toys were successfully gathered, paving the way for Christmas joy for more than 100 children in Warren County.
The holiday support didn’t just stop there. Toys collected from the Medical Center at Russellville were thoughtfully redirected to children residing in nearby Logan County. This seamless coordination showcased the community spirit and readiness to uplift those in need.
Darby Meredith, who has served as a Youth Ambassador for Toys For Tots since 2017, has emphasized how volunteering not only transforms the lives of those receiving help but also enhances her connection to her community. Her family’s commitment extended beyond collecting toys; they rolled up their sleeves and participated in distributing gifts on Christmas Day alongside the Marine Corps League and the Bowling Green Fire Department.
This year, dropboxes for Toys For Tots spanned several counties, including Warren, Simpson, Hart, Allen, Logan, Edmonson, and Clinton. The outreach ensured no child was left behind regarding Christmas joy.
Numerous volunteers played a crucial role during distribution, helping with everything from coordinating parking to organizing the toys by age and gender. They even provided free meals to families, making the day even more special. Among the dedicated volunteers was Marine Corps veteran Don Butler, affectionately known as Sgt. Claus, reflecting on his 22 years of volunteering with Toys For Tots, celebrating the happiness they bring to families every holiday season.
