Warren County Public Schools is organizing a Thanksgiving donation drive to collect frozen turkeys and chickens for families in need. They have already gathered nearly 100 items, but aim for at least 100 more before the drive concludes on November 20. The community can drop off donations at the WCPS Central Office, with distribution set to begin on November 21. Local organizations are also collaborating to provide around 400 food boxes, ensuring that every family can enjoy a hearty meal this holiday season.

Warren County Schools Spread Holiday Cheer with Thanksgiving Drive

Warren County, in a heartwarming initiative, is bringing families together this Thanksgiving through a special donation drive spearheaded by Warren County Public Schools (WCPS). The drive is focusing on gathering frozen turkeys and chickens to support families within the district who may find themselves struggling as the holiday season approaches.

Rallying for Community Support

Currently, the dedicated folks at WCPS have already managed to collect nearly 100 frozen turkeys and chickens. However, the demand exceeds that number significantly, as they are aiming for an additional 100 to ensure every family in need has a hearty meal to enjoy. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, the pressure is on to reach this ambitious goal before the donation drive wraps up on Wednesday, November 20.

Where to Donate

Community members wanting to contribute can drop off their donations at the WCPS Central Office located at 303 Lovers Lane. The office will be open for donors on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Every little bit helps, and the school system appreciates even the smallest of contributions.

Distribution Plans Underway

As the donations start rolling in, the school system has laid out plans to distribute the food items beginning on November 21. Families will have options, with some able to pick up their meals directly while others will receive deliveries if transportation is an issue. It’s all about making sure every family has the nourishment they need to celebrate.

Keeping It Fresh

In order to keep the donated turkeys and chickens in tip-top shape, WCPS is storing these items in a trailer at a chilly -4 degrees Celsius. This not only ensures the food stays safe but also maintains its quality for families during the festivities.

Community Collaboration

But the initiative doesn’t stop with just turkey and chicken donations. Local organizations, including the nonprofit House on the Hill, are teaming up with WCPS to pack approximately 600 food boxes for schools in the area. Tyson Foods is also lending a helping hand by contributing chickens for these food packages, further enriching the meals available for distribution.

Estimating the Goodies

In total, WCPS estimates that they will be able to provide around 400 boxes filled with delicious turkey, chicken, and various side dishes straight to the tables of families within the district. While the school system is certainly accepting donations for sides, a substantial portion of these will come from their partnered organizations ready to assist in feeding the community.

A Broader Support Network

November 22, ensuring that those who need assistance can receive it during this festive season.

Join In!

As Warren County gears up for a warm and generous Thanksgiving, the community is encouraged to step up and support this noble cause. Whether it’s through donations of frozen turkeys and chickens or rounding up some side dishes, every act of kindness is a step towards making the season brighter for families in need. Let’s come together and make this holiday a cherished one for all!
