Summer Art in the Park Program Returns with Expansion
Three Locations for Art and Nature Fusion
Franklin, KY- The harmonious blend of art and nature is making a comeback in Franklin. Organized by Franklin-Simpson Parks and Recreation, the Art in the Park program is once again offering the residents an opportunity to indulge in a myriad of creative and nature-inspired activities free of charge. The event, initially funded by Franklin Presbyterian Church three years ago, is boasting three significant locations this year.
“Art in the Park is a free activity for members of our community,” says Park Director Lisa Deavers. “This started three years ago with the Franklin Presbyterian Church sponsoring it, and this year we are growing to three locations.”
Open Doors and Open Easels
Facilitated by Franklin Simpson Parks and Recreation, Art in the Park is opening its doors every Tuesday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and pre-registration is not required. With various art-inspired, nature-themed activities, children of all age groups are welcome to participate. Light snacks will be provided courtesy of the Franklin Rotary Club.
“Being outdoors allows children the opportunity to use their imagination,” Deaver expressed, emphasizing the cognitive synergetic development and the fostering of creativity the program offers the community’s younger demographic.
Catering to a Broad Age Group
Initially, the initiative was targeting children fifth grade and under, but the program has widened its scope to provide activities suitable for older children, making it a perfect summer activity for families with children of diverse ages. “This is a great time to get that quality time with your child and see what they’re capable of and help them develop,” Deavers encouraged parents. “But, it’s just good quality time.”

For convenience and to accommodate a larger crowd, multiple sessions will be held across the following locations:
- Jim Roberts Community Park – At Rotary Shelter #1 (by the big playground)
- Lincoln Park – Gentlemen’s Unlimited Shelter
- Housing Authority Community Park (Hwy 1008) – by the Art in the Park banner
The return and expansion of the Art in the Park program not only exhibits the local community’s vibrant artistic spirit, but it also demonstrates a deeply ingrained recognition for the symbiosis of art and nature. This initiative is a timely reminder of how spending time outdoors, partaking in creative activities, can serve as a healthy, engaging, and family-friendly leisure pursuit.
