Western Kentucky University Police Seek Public Help in Locating Stolen Truck

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Western Kentucky University (WKU) Police Department seeks assistance from the community in locating a roll back truck reportedly stolen from Lost River Cave between the late afternoon of April 1 and April 2. The red Jerr Dan truck, valued at approximately $80,000, played a crucial role in transporting tour boats for Lost River Cave.

Investigation Underway

WKU Police Captain Paul Burton described the truck as a “really nice vehicle,” citing its age of several years but remaining in decent condition. The university’s police department currently has no leads on the case, but Burton believes the thief would require specific knowledge to operate machinery of this kind.

“It’s not your normal operable vehicle, it is not just a normal pickup truck, it has a big bed on it,” said Burton. He further added, “There’s obviously a lot of different levers and those types of things. So it’s somebody who would have to be semi experienced in driving some type of vehicle like that, in order to operate it safely.”

Seeking Community Support

Officers remain hopeful about the ongoing investigation but are now seeking community support in locating the stolen truck. In an appeal to the public, Burton commented,

“So at some point, we’ll find it. It’s VIN will run across our desk somehow, or another law enforcement officer’s desk somehow, so we’ll be able to find it. But now we’re just trying to capture some video and see if we can get a suspect to follow up on those types of things.”

The WKU Police Department is currently investigating possible surveillance footage from surrounding businesses and asks anyone with information regarding the truck or its whereabouts to reach out.

Contact Information

Those with any information on the truck or its whereabouts are asked to comment on the department’s Facebook post or call them at (270) 745-2548.
