Hosted by the United Way of Southern Kentucky, the event celebrated achievements from various initiatives over the past year, including education and volunteerism, culminating in awards for both individuals and organizations that exemplified commitment to social excellence.
Last Thursday evening, Southern Kentucky came alive with the spirit of camaraderie and appreciation at the Annual LIVE UNITED Awards Ceremony hosted by the United Way of Southern Kentucky (UWSK). The event, brimming with energy and inspiration, brought together organizations, businesses, and inspiring individuals to honor their remarkable contributions that significantly impacted local communities over the past year.
The ceremony kicked off with a heartfelt recap of the previous year’s efforts, a reminder of the power of giving, advocating, and volunteering. Attendees were treated to touching highlights that showcased various initiatives aimed at uplifting the community, including Read Across America Day, the beloved Dolly Parton Imagination Library, the impactful Feed the Need, and the widely appreciated Day of Caring. Exciting new programs like Operation Ready Child, Glass4Good, and Baby2Baby also took center stage, emphasizing UWSK’s commitment to innovation in service delivery.
With Steve Thurmond as the lively emcee, the atmosphere was electric, and the mood was celebratory. UWSK President and CEO Debbie Hills took the stage to present a prestigious $500,000 Milestone Award to Logan Aluminum, crowning them as the first organization to ever cross the remarkable fundraising milestone. This accolade epitomizes the kind of spirit that fuels the community and highlights how collaboration can lead to substantial outcomes.
The evening also spotlighted awards for those making strides in community impact partnerships, particularly in early childhood education. Among the honorees, the Barren County School District received the coveted Kindergarten Readiness Award, showcasing an impressive 32% increase in readiness scores. Meanwhile, the Renshaw Early Childhood Center at Western Kentucky University was celebrated for its invaluable work with English Language Learners and children with disabilities, demonstrating a profound commitment to inclusivity and education.
A variety of awards were presented that evening, acknowledging significant contributions in different categories. The Greatest Giving Increases, Leadership Investment Awards, and Volunteer Investment Awards exemplified the dedication of numerous individuals and organizations striving for a better Southern Kentucky. The Spirit United Award was given to Warren County Public Schools, recognizing their enthusiastic involvement in early childhood education and volunteerism, representing a shining example of community spirit.
Laura Sisco was honored with the Shooting Star Award for her passionate advocacy as a foster and adoptive mother, illustrating how ordinary people are often the heartbeat of community change. The evening’s highlight came with the announcement of the LIVE UNITED Award, awarded to Logan Aluminum and American Bank & Trust. Both winners were selected from a pool of four finalists based on their unwavering commitment to giving, advocacy, and volunteering.
As the evening wound down, the essence of the awards ceremony underscored a crucial message: community support is indispensable in fostering progress in education, health, and financial stability. The remarkable stories and accomplishments, gathered under one roof, gave weight to the reality that UWSK thrives on the generosity of volunteers and donations from local businesses, showcasing a true community spirit and a passion for making a difference.
In a world where challenges often dominate the headlines, the UWSK’s Annual LIVE UNITED Awards Ceremony reminded everyone present that solidarity and selflessness can yield remarkable outcomes, reinforcing the belief that together, Southern Kentucky can overcome obstacles and build a brighter future for all.
