Bowling Green, KY – Emergency crews and the Bowling Green City staff were alerted to a sinkhole that suddenly opened on Campbell Lane near Gary Farms Blvd. The incident occurred due to substantial drainage problems in the area.
The Bowling Green Police Department confirmed the presence of the sinkhole. Situated close to the Greenwood Mall and Greenwood Park Church of Christ, the area hosts many businesses and restaurants that can potentially be affected by the situation. The news was first conveyed by the Public Information Officer of the BGPD, Ronnie Ward, who explained that the department officers initially attended to the situation.
By 2 p.m., however, the local police turned over the scene to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), handing over responsibility for managing the situation and making necessary repairs.
An update shared by the City of Bowling Green on social media reported that the 1800 block of Campbell Lane experienced lane closures due to the sinkhole. The KYTC is working on repairing the damage caused under the right turn lane. As a result of the repair work, the right turn lane will remain closed for an uncertain period, although the straight-through lanes have been reopened.
Motorists navigating the area are strongly urged to use caution, as the response team is yet to finish its work. The situation on the ground remains fluid and is continually developing, with officials and crews working hard to repair the sinkhole promptly and safely.
Our crew is en route to the site, and we look forward to sharing more details soon. In the meantime, we encourage our readers to stay updated on this page and look forward to our evening coverage starting at 4 p.m.
We would like to stress that this is an isolated incident and should not result in a cause for undue alarm for the residents and businesses in the vicinity. All appropriate steps are being taken to rectify the situation and ensure safety.
