Simpson County School District Addresses Alleged School Bus Attack

Simpson County School District Releases Statement Amid Allegations of School Bus Attack

FRANKLIN, KY – Tim Schlosser, the Superintendent of Simpson County Schools, released a statement on Monday to address the alleged physical attack that occurred between two students on a school bus last Thursday.

Incident Details

The incident, labeled as a “student incident”, transpired on the afternoon of Thursday, April 18, 2024, at about 3:35 p.m. while both students were commuting on a Simpson County school bus. As soon as it transpired, the bus monitor, who was on duty at the time, put an immediate halt to the confrontation.

The school district’s transportation office and the respective school administrators took quick measures to notify the parents of both the students involved. In addition to these immediate actions, local law enforcement authorities were promptly contacted to examine the case in depth.

School District Response

In his statement, Superintendent Schlosser stated, “This matter is being dealt with in accordance with our District and School Policies. The School District will continue to process the investigation and will deal with all administrative issues as they pertain to student discipline.”

He further mentioned that any criminal action deemed necessary following the incident would be the responsibility of local law enforcement and the County Attorney’s Office. Given the students involved are juveniles, he affirmed that their ability to comment further is bound by state law stipulations.

Ensuring Student Safety

The statement also highlighted the school district’s commitment to student and staff safety, emphasizing, “The safety of our students and staff remains the top priority of the Simpson County School District. At this time, all appropriate actions have been taken to ensure all students remain safe.”

The school administration held meetings with both students involved on Friday, April 19, trying to ensure that a thorough investigation into the alleged attack is carried out. However, the sheriff’s office of Simpson County declined to comment on the matter due to the involvement of two juvenile parties.

Public Reaction

The alleged attack caught attention on Facebook when images, supposedly showing blood on the victim’s head, were posted by an unidentified user. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of students commuting to and from school, escalating the public interest in the case.

Investigation In Progress

The Simpson County School District continues to conduct its investigation into the incident. Further updates and actions will adhere to school and district policies, focused on maintaining a safe, respectful atmosphere for all students.
