Simpson County History Center Debuts New Exhibit for Election Year
FRANKLIN, Ky – The Simpson County History Center has once again opened its doors to their much-anticipated exhibit highlighting the presidential elections throughout America’s history. This is the second installment of this exhibit, marking a significant event in the lead-up to the 2024 election.
Second Year of the Popular Exhibit
Following its successful first run in 2020, the exhibit has returned with more than 700 unique pieces. Much of the material added to this year’s exhibit comes from the personal collection of Dr. James Henry Snider, the President and CEO of the Simpson County Historical Society. His lifelong work in politics has provided an array of material spanning several decades of election campaigns.
“We launched the exhibit early this year in case people didn’t realize it’s an election year. We thought we’d remind them,” joked Dr. Snider.
Enthusiastic Response from Visitors
The vast collection enthralls visitors who get a peek into the country’s political history. Snider’s personal favorite is the collection as a whole rather than a single item. He shares the excitement of being able to enrich this exhibit not just from his collection but also with contributions from the community and finds from estate sales.
“I find it hard to pick a favorite item. I believe the essence of the exhibit lies in the collection as a whole—the additions over time, the generosity of others contributing to it, and the privilege of sharing it with the public,” said Dr. Snider.
A Piece of History that Inspires and Informs
The Simpson County History Center aspires to educate visitors through this exhibit. It serves as an important reminder of America’s enduring political system with its peaceful transfer of power. Regardless of winning or losing candidates, elections have always played a critical role in the nation’s journey, and this exhibit beautifully encapsulates that.
“We hope visitors perceive the underlying message—our country has a history of presidential candidates, winners, and losers, yet we’ve always maintained civility and ensured a peaceful transition of power. This exhibit aims to remind people about it and the importance of participating in the voting process,” emphasized Dr. Snider.
Open for Visitors
The exhibit will remain open until the upcoming Presidential Inauguration in January. The Simpson County History Center welcomes visitors Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Details about the center can be found on their Facebook page.
