Bowling Green is mourning the peaceful passing of Sharon Sue Belcher Hesson, a cherished member of the community who departed this life on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky. She was a remarkable woman, celebrated for her unwavering dedication to nursing and the countless lives she touched throughout her years of service.
Sharon, a Bowling Green native, was born on December 9, 1945, to the late James “Jimmy” Belcher and Constance Jane Montgomery Belcher. From her early days, it was clear that she was destined for greatness. After graduating from Western Kentucky University and the Nashville General School of Health Science, she embarked on a career that would stretch over half a century. For an astounding 41 years, Sharon devoted her life to the Bowling Green Medical Center, proving herself as a skilled and compassionate nurse. She also lent her talents to several local nursing homes, always bringing comfort to those in need.
But Sharon wasn’t just a nurse; she was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was her world, and she found immense joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a special touch that made everyone feel loved and cared for, a quality that endeared her to friends and family alike.
Tragically, Sharon’s journey included heart-wrenching losses. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Roger Wayne Hesson, her two daughters, Susan Marie Hesson and Kari Lynn Vasquez, as well as her sister, Lynda Gayle James, and her brother, William Harrison Belcher. Such losses would cast a shadow on many, but Sharon maintained her significant influence on those still here.
Sharon is survived by her three grandchildren: Jennifer Lynn LeGrand, Jessica Nicole (James) Abney, and Brittany Michelle Furlong. The love she nurtured continues to thrive through her six great-grandchildren: Camron Lee Bowman, Christopher Wyatt Bowman, Ember Leigh Russell, Gabriel Alexzander Abney, Kyra Grace Nash, and James Kayden Abney. Additionally, she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends—each carrying a piece of her warmth and kindness in their hearts.
For those wishing to pay their respects, Sharon’s funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Chapel on Broadway. Visitation will begin earlier that day at 9:00 AM, allowing friends and loved ones to gather and share their memories of this extraordinary woman.
As the Bowling Green community comes together to celebrate Sharon’s life, it’s a poignant reminder of the impact one person can have through love, service, and compassion. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her remarkable spirit and the legacy she leaves behind.
