Hundreds Participate in Run & Walk for Children to Aid Family Enrichment Center
Residents of Bowling Green, KY packed the Ephram White Park over the weekend to participate in the 28th Annual Run and Walk for Children. The two-day event took place on Friday and Saturday and drew around 450 participants. With the collective efforts of the participants, the event managed to raise approximately $50,000.
Supporting Childcare Services for Families in Crisis
This particular event is one of the biggest fundraising events of the year for the Family Enrichment Center, with the proceeds going towards supporting vital childcare services. “It supports our Wee Care Childcare Center,” shared Katie Dykes, director of development at the Family Enrichment Center.
The Wee Care Childcare Center is distinct for being one of the very few facilities in the region that provide free respite and drop-in services for families going through crises. As such, it serves as a crucial part of the community support network in Bowling Green.
Braving the Chill for a Good Cause
Despite the nippy weather on Saturday, runners turned out in droves to participate in the 5K run, 5K walk, and half marathon. The participants demonstrated their enthusiasm and commitment to supporting the cause, serving as a heartwarming instance of communal solidarity.
Kickstarting Child Abuse Prevention Month
These events also serve as a spirited start to the Child Abuse Prevention Month, observed in April. The Family Enrichment Center will host a series of awareness events throughout the month to further the cause.
Beyond the Run and Walk: Other Event Highlights
Apart from the main event, the fundraiser also featured a range of exciting activities. On Friday, the children in attendance got to partake in a one-mile Glow Run, while adults enjoyed the Family Wellness Expo. These fun yet purposeful events allowed the entire community to come together and engage actively in working towards a significant cause.
