In the heart of Bowling Green, Kentucky, the holiday spirit comes alive in a unique and delightful way. If you think reindeer belong only at the North Pole, think again! Jessica Anderson, the Co-Owner of The Reindeer Farm, shares her passion for these enchanting creatures that have been part of the continental U.S. since the 1960s. “I’ve always been obsessed with Christmas,” Jessica beams, a twinkle in her eye. “As a mom, that love just multiplied. I have a love for farming too, and we figured, why not combine the two? That’s how our reindeer farm was born, bringing the festive cheer right to our backyard!”
Since opening its doors in 2020, The Reindeer Farm has brought joy not just to families but also to Santa’s furry helpers. This year, the farm kicked off its fifth holiday season on November 15, sparking with new attractions and fresh faces as they welcomed two new reindeer named Marshmallow and Waffles. Anderson emphasized the importance of making the experience enjoyable for both the visitors and the reindeer themselves. “The most challenging part of raising reindeer is understanding their personalities. Just like us, some reindeer adore attention, while others prefer to keep their distance. We respect their wishes and just go with the flow,” she explains.
This festive season, The Reindeer Farm has expanded its offerings, shimmering with excitement. “We’re really proud of our two new pedal car tracks, one for the bigger kids and even an adorable one for toddlers,” Anderson said. And for those seeking a thrill, the addition of mini zip lines caters to the kids and the young-at-heart adults too!
One of the most anticipated changes this year is the barn expansion, which now features a cozy, heated space. “It can accommodate 120 people, so on chilly days, families can still gather to create memories without having to deal with the weather,” Jessica quips, envisioning laughter and fun within the warmth of the barn.
Despite the challenges of running a farm, Jessica’s favorite part of the holiday season is watching families create lasting memories. “We have regulars who return every year, and it’s heartwarming to see their children grow up alongside our reindeer,” she recalls. “They’ll share photos from their very first visit—it’s like watching time fly and seeing our reindeer grow up with them. It’s so magical!”
The Reindeer Farm will be open every Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additionally, they’re hosting special hours on December 23rd, perfect for sneaking in some last-minute reindeer games before Santa takes off! Mark your calendars, grab your family, and get ready to dive into a joyful experience filled with festive cheer.
The Reindeer Farm in Bowling Green is more than just a farm; it’s a hub of holiday cheer, laughter, and unforgettable moments. With its enchanting atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to start your holiday traditions. So, dust off those winter boots, gather your loved ones, and make some memories with the amazing reindeer this holiday season!
