In a wave of blackouts sweeping through South-Central Kentucky, thousands of homes in Simpson County were left in the dark following a lightning strike. An estimated 2,300 outages were reported on an online outage viewer platform on Tuesday evening.
A transmission line in the Franklin area was taken out due to the lightning strike, affecting power supply service. Supplemental county outages also include 84 homes in Butler County, and roughly 26 in Edmonson County. About 67 households were impacted in Bowling Green, one of the largest cities in the region.
Efforts are presently underway to restore power to impacted homes with the respective power utilities actively working towards the same. Online platforms, capable of tracking and detailing the power outages, have been crucial in implementing the restoration operations.
This blackout comes as another in a series of unfortunate incidents that have affected the south-central region of Kentucky. Residents are urged to stay updated using the respective online platforms and to practice patience as power restoration efforts are underway.
The area’s power utilities are diligently monitoring the situation and making every effort to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Residents are advised to stay away from downed power lines and to promptly report any power outages to expedite the restoration process.
During power outages, it is advisable to unplug electrical equipment, to prevent damage from a power surge when power is restored. It is also critical to have essential battery-operated equipment like flashlights, radios, and necessary medication at hand. Non-perishable food that does not require cooking is also recommended as are abundant supplies of drinking water.
Residents are also advised to keep a close eye on weather forecasts as weather changes often play a role in causing power outages. Being well prepared in advance can ease the inconveniences caused during such times.
The swift action of the power utilities coupled with the resilient spirit of the residents of south-central Kentucky demonstrate their determination to rally through the storm. The restoration of power will be a relief to the thousands who were affected by the unanticipated power outages. They are all hopeful that life will soon return to normal.
