Residents across Bowling Green, Kentucky were thrown into a sudden darkness on Saturday evening when severe storms swept through, taking out power for over 1,400 people.

The neighborhoods chiefly affected were around the Smallhouse Road and Grider Pond Road areas. Thanks to the daunting storms, there were fallen power lines causing more pockets of gloom for 304 more households, mainly in Hadley and some in Greenwood.

However, it wasn’t all dread and darkness for long. The good folks who represent the power company WRECC swiftly jumped into action. A spokesperson for WRECC confirmed that by 6:30 p.m., power was back on for all those 1,400 homes. A big sigh of relief, no doubt!

The power’s back, but the tale isn’t quite over. As of 10 p.m., there were still a handful of tiny outages on the map. The WRECC spokesperson couldn’t say for certain if these were still relics from the storm or just general outages.

Work is ongoing to get these last lights back on. Police are issuing a familiar plea: If you spot a downed power line, give it a wide berth. Make a call to WRECC on 270-842-6541 instead. Good advice for any time, not just during a storm.
