Bowling Green, KY – The Planning, Design and Construction (PDC) department has announced that a planned power outage will affect several buildings on campus, Saturday. The affected locations include Jones Jaggers Hall, Keen Hall and the PFT Food Court.
Power will be switched off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and according to PDC, power is expected to be restored in Jones Jaggers and Keen halls by approximately 3 p.m.
However, the PFT Food Court will not have its power restored until Friday, July 19, due to an electrical service upgrade being carried out. The upgrade involves installing a new 12,470-volt system design.
Chief Facilities Officer Bryan Russell said that this new design will allow individual switches to be activated to isolate a building or feed the primary power from another power source. The upgrade is expected to provide a more flexible and robust design.
Interestingly, while the PFT Food court is the only location undergoing an upgrade, the other two buildings, Jones Jaggers and Keen, will also be affected. This is due to the fact they share a substation with the Food Court and cannot be isolated from it.
“They have no way to isolate one building from the other,” commented Bryan Russell.
Furthermore, Ben Johnson, Assistant Director of PDC, assured that no other buildings will be affected by the power outage.
“All other buildings on campus will continue to have power during this period,” Johnson stated.
The scheduled maintenance and updates aim at improving the robustness and flexibility of the campus electrical system. As such, the university desires the affected staff, students and faculty, to bear with the inconvenience.
