Stormy Saturday Leaves 1,400 Powerless in Bowling Green, Full Power Now Restored

Bowling Green had quite a ho-hum Saturday evening turned topsy-turvy yesterday when an unexpected storm swept through the city, leaving around 1,400 locals without electricity. The power outage mainly affected folks living in the Smallhouse Road and Grider Pond Road area.

Billowing dark clouds rolled in swiftly late in the afternoon, and the wind sure did pack a punch! Downed power lines led to a swift blackout in many corners of the city. Strikingly, 304 customers in the Hadley area, as well as a couple of residents in the Greenwood region, also took a hit.

However, thanks to the quick action of the regional electric company, power was restored to the 1,400 who initially lost service, right around the dinner hour of 6:30 p.m. Same couldn’t be said for everyone though! While the lion’s share of issues were resolved, a few tiny pockets of outages persisted until late in the evening. Whether these were storm-related wasn’t immediately confirmed.

“Our crews are hustling to restore power as quickly as we can, and we really appreciate your patience. If you spot any downed power lines, for goodness sake, stay away from them and give us a ring on 270-842-6541.”

An official notice from the regional electric company cautioned locals about these potential safety risks, emphasizing the importance of public awareness and vigilance.

Thankfully, the efforts of the electric company seem to be playing out positively. Of the 1,400 customers who experienced an outage due to the storm, most are now seen with lights flickering back on. This swift reaction showcases the potential and importance of prompt response in emergency situations.

Bowling Green, let’s stay safe. If you’re out and about and you see anything that looks out of place, it’s best to keep away and call the pros. Once everything has been checked and deemed safe, we can all go back to our routine and ward off the chill of the night.

Let’s take this as a reminder that even amid the calm, there’s always room for unexpected shifts. And while storms may come and go, our shared responsibility to look out for each other should never waver. Stay watchful. Stay safe.
