Power Restored to Thousands of WRECC Customers in Bowling Green and Warren
On Sunday in the Bowling Green area and Warren County, more than thousands of Western Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation (WRECC) customers weathered a significant power outage. The outage, which was linked to equipment failures likely damaged in recent storms, lasted less than two hours in most places before power was restored.
Outage Details
According to WRECC officials, the outage started in the mid-afternoon, with approximately 10,000 customers without power by 3 p.m. The main cause for this outage was a failure in some equipment which had been damaged during recent storms, said Kim Phelps, the Public Information Officer for WRECC. Despite the unforeseen equipment failure, power was returned to customers about an hour after the initial outage was reported.
A secondary outage was also reported in the Brownsville area, resulting in roughly 1,600 customers being left without power for just over an hour before it was restored. Power was fully restored by the evening, allowing area residents to end their day on a comfortable note.
Precautionary Measures
During power outages, especially during hot temperatures, residents are encouraged to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety. Local officials advise residents to conserve phone batteries, maintain closed doors and windows with shades lowered to keep interiors cool, and keep refrigerators and freezers closed to conserve food. It is also important to note that security systems may go offline during power outages, and homeowners are advised to keep their doors locked.
The Plano Fire Department also welcomes the public into their safe room located at 3210 Plano Road during instances of power outages.
Despite the inconvenience of the power outage, the response from WRECC was swift, with power being restored to all affected customers within two hours of the initial power failure. WRECC continues to monitor the situation and remains prepared to handle any additional outages.
A real-time outage map was also made available to keep residents updated about the status of power restoration in their areas. Power has since been restored in all affected areas, and WRECC thanks its customers for their patience during this unexpected power outage.
Looking Forward
The rapid restoration of power is indicative of the efficiency and hard work of local utility crews. The disruptions caused by unexpected equipment failures are not taken lightly, as residents’ safety and comfort are of paramount importance. WRECC and local officials are committed to providing reliable service to their customers and urge residents to take necessary precautions during power outages.
