New Food Distribution Building Grand Opening in Bowling Green
The Calvary Care Center & Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland Unveil New Building
BOWLING GREEN, KY – A beacon of hope, the Calvary Care Center, in association with Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland (FAKH), recently announced the inauguration of their brand-new food distribution building. Located at 480 Beauty Court in Bowling Green, the center’s initiative is a testament to community resilience and the ongoing efforts to combat food insecurity.
Expanded Services for the Community
“We are thrilled to see Calvary Care Center expand its reach and capacity to serve the Warren County community,” said Charles Dennis, Executive Director of FAKH. The new venue, equipped with advanced facilities, will significantly improve the quality of life for numerous families, aiding those most vulnerable to food insecurity.
Since its foundation in 2000 by Calvary Baptist Church, the Calvary Care Center has endeavored to provide support to the community. This recent expansion has been made possible due to a significant investment of $93,000 by FAKH, post the 2021 tornadoes. The funding aided in procuring the new location and boosting the center’s capacity for storing food items and clothing.
Response after Tragedy and Unmet Needs
“We’ve all had hard times in our lives where we’ve needed help,” shared Calvary Care Center leader, John Lawyer. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to help others during their times of hardship and the outpouring of support from the empathetic community following the devastation of the tornadoes.
According to Lawyer, they had been operating out of a building one-third of the size of the new facility, which had been at maximum capacity for a long time. The upsurge in demand prompted the expansion in an attempt to meet the increasing community needs more effectively.
Increasing Outreach and Operational Hours
Moving forward, the expanded Calvary Care Center will be open to the public during the second week of every month on Monday and Tuesday. The center plans to extend operation hours in the forthcoming months to include evening and weekend availability, thereby reaching out to more families in need and ensure no one goes to bed hungry.
The new food distribution center symbolizes the shared belief and responsibility of the Calvary Care Center and FAKH to continue rallying around community members who need assistance the most. This monumental move is just one of the broader efforts implemented to actively address and alleviate food insecurity in Warren County.
