Bowling Green, Ky. – The highly anticipated Mustang Club is nearing its grand opening, and excitement is in the air. Co-owner Derrick Huff is thrilled to share details about the unique offerings of this multi-faceted establishment, which combines a restaurant, wine bar, cocktail lounge, and a jazz club all under one roof.
According to Huff, the club features an upstairs wine bar and restaurant, while also offering rental spaces for private events like weddings and banquets. “We have a restaurant, we’re a venue, we’re a wine bar, we’re a cocktail bar, we’re a jazz club,” Huff explained. “It’s a lot, but it’s in two spaces. So there’s a little something for everybody.” This diversity is aimed at attracting a wide range of guests, from families enjoying brunch to adults looking for a classy night out.
The building that houses The Mustang Club has a rich history, formerly serving as a gymnasium and a venue for international boxing tournaments in the 1900s. Huff mentioned that they have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community regarding the restoration of the building. “We’ve received nothing but kudos and support from the local community, and we’re very humbled by that,” he said. Many locals are excited to see the revitalization of a place that had long been neglected.
Once open, The Mustang Club plans to operate from Wednesdays through Sundays. Mornings will welcome guests for brunch, while the evenings will feature dining options and the highly anticipated speakeasy. The downstairs area will host a 1930s-themed speakeasy, specifically for guests 21 years and older. This space will include a stage for live music, with local jazz and blues bands performing every weekend.
Huff expressed enthusiasm for the local musician who will lead the house band and is eager to reveal more information soon. “It’ll just be a classy, upscale speakeasy cocktail bar place for adults to go to unwind and enjoy themselves,” he said. Despite the upscale atmosphere and a dress code, Huff emphasized that the focus is on providing an affordable experience. “We believe fine dining is excellent quality food that’s prepared exquisitely,” said Huff, noting that everything will be made in-house with many ingredients sourced locally.
The Mustang Club is already partnering with local farms, which means guests can expect items like house-made bread and charcuterie boards crafted from locally sourced ingredients. Currently, the establishment is in the midst of construction, entering the next phase with tasks like putting up drywall, completing electrical work, building the bars, refinishing floors, and decorating the interior.
While Huff and his wife Deserea do not have a specific opening date just yet, they hope to kick things off in late December or early January. They are around 95 percent finished with menu development and are actively seeking to hire more staff. Interested individuals can visit their website for job applications and updates.
