On Friday morning, Henry F. Moss Middle School experienced an active lockdown due to a reported potential threat. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) confirmed that the school is now safe, and parents can rest assured that all students are unharmed.
At approximately 10:16 a.m., the school went into lockdown mode. Heavy police presence was reported around the campus, and no individuals were permitted to enter or exit the building while the situation developed. Around 10:45 a.m., the Warren County Sheriff’s Office reached out on social media to inform the public about the incident. They stated, “This morning, the WCSO was made aware of a potential threat at Moss Middle School. The school was placed on lockdown, and at this time, law enforcement has rendered the campus safe. We are currently following up on leads pertaining to the threat. More information will follow as soon as it is available.”
In light of the situation, the Warren County Public Schools (WCPS) district issued a message to families. They emphasized their commitment to ensuring a safe environment for students, faculty, and staff. The alert detailed the source of the lockdown: a rumor about a student possibly possessing a weapon at the school. However, authorities confirmed that the student was located off-campus and is currently being questioned.
The WCPS noted that several schools within the Warren Central feeder system implemented temporary lockouts or lockdowns as a precaution while police investigated. Thankfully, the lockdowns were subsequently lifted once law enforcement confirmed there was no immediate threat.
The Bowling Green Police Department and WCSO dispatched multiple units to the school in response to the threat. This proactive approach is part of their ongoing efforts to protect students and staff in the community. The sheriff stated in an update that “there is no imminent threat to this school” and urged the public to avoid spreading incorrect information that might exacerbate the situation.
WCSO sheriff Brett Hightower explained that the department takes “every single threat as seriously as you can imagine.” He reiterated the need for accurate information and highlighted that multiple school resource officers are stationed at local campuses to enhance security. Hightower acknowledged the crucial role of these officers and noted that detectives are currently conducting interviews on-site related to the incident.
Rob Clayton, the superintendent of Warren County Public Schools, was also present at the scene. He underlined the importance of student and staff safety, stating, “Ensuring the safety of students and staff is our top priority.” Clayton emphasized that although similar threats are not uncommon, public response is often immediate, and sometimes reactions may become erratic before the district can release official communications.
As the situation unfolded, it became clear that the WCPS is committed to navigating these challenges effectively and in a timely manner, working closely with local law enforcement.
For the time being, the community can feel assured that there is no active threat at Moss Middle School, thanks to the swift actions by law enforcement and the school district. As investigations continue, updates will be provided to keep parents, students, and the public informed about any developments concerning this incident.
For anyone in the community who may have information regarding potential threats, they are encouraged to communicate concerns to school officials or to utilize the Kentucky Safe School Tipline by calling 866-393-6659 or using the reporting form available online.
