Bowling Green Says Goodbye to Local Legend Mike Tarter

It is always tough to say goodbye, especially to someone who left a significant mark on our community. On Sunday, December 8, 2024, Bowling Green lost a beloved figure with the passing of Mike Tarter, aged 66. Mike spent his final days at Greenwood Nursing and Rehab, surrounded by care and comfort.

A Life Rich in Story

Born on May 21, 1958, in the charming town of Heidelberg, Germany, Mike was the cherished son of the late Bobby Lee Tarter and Maxine Roof Walters. His life was a tapestry woven with hard work, dedication, and a genuine love for the things that brought him joy.

Mike dedicated over twenty-three years of his life to working in the shipping and receiving department at Sears. His commitment to his job spoke volumes about his strong work ethic, and many will miss his steady presence in the workplace.

Passions That Shaped Him

If you knew Mike, you probably were aware of his passion for collecting John Deere tractors. This hobby wasn’t just a pastime; it was a source of immense joy and pride for him. He took great pleasure in tending to his collection, and it often served as a conversation starter among friends and family.

His love for animals was equally palpable. Mike cherished the companionship of his dogs and cats, finding solace and happiness in their presence. This caring nature was a testament to his gentle spirit and ability to connect with living beings.

Beyond his hobbies at home, Mike also had a significant interest in ham radio conversations. Through this medium, he formed connections with people far and wide, sharing experiences, stories, and laughter with those on the other end of the line. It was a unique way for him to maintain friendships and build a community, right from his own living room.

Remembering Mike

His companion, Sue Carter of Bowling Green, feels the profound loss, as does his daughter, Brittany Tarter. Mike was also the proud grandfather to Marie Philpot and Michael Philpot, who will carry on his legacy of kindness and warmth. With several cousins also in mourning, it’s clear that Mike’s absence will be felt widely across his family and friends.

A Final Farewell

Although Mike has left this earthly realm, the family has decided not to schedule any formal services at this time. Instead, they hope to celebrate his memory in personal and meaningful ways. For those wishing to honor Mike’s life, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mike Tarter Memorial Fund at Patton Funeral Home, located at P.O. Box 326, Brownsville, KY 42210.

As Bowling Green reflects on the life of Mike Tarter, we remember not just a friend and family member but a man who embodied dedication, passion, and love. His legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
