Middle Tennessee Softball Heads to Western Kentucky for Season Finale Series

The Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) softball team is gearing up to head to Bowling Green for its final conference road series of the season. The Blue Raiders will face the Western Kentucky University (WKU) team starting on Friday, April 19th.

Conference USA Softball Standings

The stakes are high for the Blue Raiders as they navigate the 2024 season. According to the current Conference USA Softball Standings, WKU is positioned in second place with a 10-5 conference record. Liberty tops the chart with a 26-16 total and a 15-3 conference record. Middle Tennessee currently stands at 19-27 overall with a 5-13 conference record, placing them beneath Jacksonville State and University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

Key Players

In the limelight for Middle Tennessee are two players who have recently earned CUSA Weekly honors – Kamryn Carcich and Amaya Harris. Harris has made headlines with a remarkable 16-game hitting streak, which ranks as the longest in Division 1 this season. On the power front, Ansley Blevins currently leads CUSA in conference play with nine home runs and the highest total of bases (46). Shelby Echols, with an impressive achievement of 51 hits, is currently leading in CUSA.

The squad’s significant accomplishment this season lies in their record-setting hitting performance. The 2024 Blue Raiders have managed to hit 42 home runs this season, surpassing the previous single-season record set in 2012.

Series History and Competition Scouting

Looking back at the all-time series between MTSU and WKU, it’s the Tops that edge out with a 47-34 lead. However, last season, the Blue Raiders clinched three out of four meetings, including the most recent 7-1 victory in Ruston, Louisiana, during the Conference USA tournament.

On the competing side, WKU exhibits robust performance with the highest team batting average in CUSA standing at .306. Taylor Sanders, a WKU star player, leads the league with a massive 15 homers this season. Armed with the fourth-lowest ERA at 3.53, WKU is a formidable opponent in the circle. Katie Gardner, WKU’s primary pitcher, has clocked 126 innings this year with 11 wins and 93 strikeouts.

Live coverage of the games will be available on ESPN+. To keep up with live stats and radio broadcasts, fans can visit the links provided on the MTSU Athletics website. Those interested can follow Middle Tennessee Softball on social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Looking Forward

With home runs flying and records breaking, the Blue Raiders show no signs of slowing down. As they travel to Bowling Green to take on WKU, supporters will watch the games with bated breath. The upcoming weekend promises high intensity and exciting softball action as the MTSU Blue Raiders look to close their season on a high note.
