Bowling Green, KY — Music lovers are in for a treat as the Grammy Award-winning Louisville Orchestra gear up to perform in Warren County on March 5, 2024. This visit forms a part of the final leg of their “In Harmony: The Commonwealth Tour”.
Having been established in 1937, the Louisville Orchestra has consistently maintained its standing as a staple of the Louisville performing arts community. Their most recent achievement includes the 2024 Grammy for Best Classical Instrumental Solo. Serving not just as a performance tour, the “In Harmony Tour” also embarks on a new initiative that collaborates with local musicians, artists, schools, and community organizations.
Tanner Porter, a composer associated with the Louisville Orchestra’s Creators Corps (LOCC), expressed her excitement about the tour. She shared that the Creators Corps function as a music residency program for composers selected by the orchestra to engage the community through music. “There is a lot beyond just the main concert series,” she said. “The Creator Corps program is a really, really, special initiative. The fact that we are getting to write pieces that the orchestra is going to bring on tour for so many cities and towns throughout Kentucky is such a privilege.”
Alongside engaging in multiple capacities with the community, members of the Creator Corps, including Porter, are diligently working on creating new music for the orchestra to perform. Her composition, titled “Back at It,” is one of the works featured in the “In Harmony Tour”. The piece boasts a unique mix of alternative open-string tunings and she is looking forward to showcasing it in Bowling Green, as well as in Danville, Kentucky on March 8.
The concert is slated for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKYPAC). Those interested in the event can find ticket and additional information online at the Louisville Orchestra website.
