Bowling Green, Kentucky: KY Legal Aid will be offering free living will and power of attorney clinics in the upcoming months

Kentucky Legal Aid is set to provide a number of living will and power of attorney clinics across the BRADD region throughout this spring. Aimed at individuals of 60 years of age or older, these clinics will enable participants to access critical legal services regardless of their income or assets.

The Importance of Living Wills:

Bobbie Esters, the Benefits Director of Kentucky Legal Aid, expresses her insights on the importance of living wills. “Living wills are crucial as they make your desires known in the event you become incapacitated to the point of needing life support,” emphasizes Esters. These legal documents help in clarifying whether an individual desires to be on life support, refrains from it or intends to issue an organ donation.

In an effort to highlight how this eases decision-making processes for families, Esters stated, “As a parent and a daughter, it would have been incredibly challenging for me to withdraw life support not knowing whether it was my mother’s wish or not. Living wills make this process somewhat easier for families.”

The Clinic’s Offering:

The clinics aim to discuss the specifics of an individual’s living will and make the documentation official. The process involves extensive dialogue regarding the participant’s wishes, the designation of duties, and the specifics of the living will. These discussions would then be formally documented on-site and notarized, providing the participants with their processed documents on the same day.

Eligibility and Access:

Although the clinics are essentially aimed at individuals 60 years of age or above, people under 60 can also access these services provided they meet the eligibility criteria conforming to the grant guidelines.

The clinics will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 12 p.m. They have been scheduled at diverse locations to ensure easy access for the residents of BRADD region. The schedule and locations are as follows:

  • March 21 -Allen County Senior Center
