Bowling Green, Ky. – A major transportation disruption is looming for residents of the region as KY 187 Sunfish Road in Edmonson County is set to experience a prolonged closure. This comes as a result of a scheduled project to replace the bridge that stretches across Whetstone Creek, a much necessary yet regrettable cause for the ensuing inconvenience.
The road closure is primarily set to commence at Whetstone Creek at mile point 2.2. This process is expected to be triggered on Thursday, April 18. And while the authorities and responsible contractors strive to ensure the least amount of disruption, the closure is expected to last up to an unwelcome 60 days.
The closure is made necessary by the much needed replacement of the presently dilapidated bridge at Whetstone Creek. This development, however disruptive, is absolutely necessary for the sustained overall development and safety of the region’s motoring public.
With the prolonged closure, motorists and commuters are advised to allow extra travel time as the detour will undoubtedly add substantial distance to the daily commute. A signed detour using KY 70, KY 238, and KY 185 will be strategically put in place to aid in the navigation around the closed stretch of road.
Parallel plans coincide with the closure. The contractors involved in this infrastructural transformation are planning to officially open the new bridge on KY 70 prior to the closing of KY 187’s Whetstone Creek bridge. However, due to weather conditions, this plan might face delays or rescheduling.
While the effectiveness of the planned detours, the weather conditions, and the smooth execution of the project remain significant concerns for the populace and the construction team, the completion of this project is undeniably crucial for ensuring safer and better travelling conditions in the future.
