Local Student, Kolbyn Price, Awarded TVA Power Play Scholarship
Bowling Green, Kentucky – It was announced last Thursday that local student, Kolbyn Price, is the recipient of the TVA Power Play Scholarship for 2024. The scholarship, awarded by Bowling Green Municipal Utilities, singles out the most talented of Bowling Green High School students. Price makes the cut as one of the 40 honored recipients.
A Rewarding Scholarship
The coveted scholarship amounts to a gratifying $4,000. This financial reward is a testament to Price’s hard work and dedication, both in the fields of academics and sports throughout his high school career.
Remarkable Academic and Athletic Achievements
Graduating with a 4.0 unweighted GPA, Price has proven his academic prowess as a prominent member of the Beta Club, FCA, and Younglife. But his accolades don’t stop just at academics. Price also shines on the sporting field. As a member of the Bowling Green Purples football team, he has a two-time KHSAA 5A state champion honor under his belt. Price is also a four-time Academic All-State Honoree.
With such compelling achievements in both academics and sports, Price has planned his future carefully. He will be attending Western Kentucky University with a double major in Political Science and Legal Studies. He aims to further prepare himself for law school while continuing his football career with the Hilltoppers.
Selection Process for the TVA Power Play Scholarship
An eight-member selection team composed of educators from colleges and universities in the seven states of the Tennessee Valley picks the Power Play scholarship recipients. The judges consider academic achievement, standardized test scores, leadership qualities, written essays, and letters of recommendation during the selection process.
The Power Play Scholarship Association, consisting of 16 local power company managers from the Valley region’s 153 Local Power Companies (LPCs) and TVA representatives, guides this choice. The association has awarded nearly 800 scholarships totaling over $2.9 million to children of LPC employees since 1995.
This philanthropy is funded by membership fees from the association, contributions from TVA and vendors, along with the annual Power Play Golf Tournament events. The principal aim of the scholarship program is to inspire students to excel while recognizing the robust partnerships between TVA and distributors of TVA power.
Kolbyn Price, who happens to be the son of Chris and Jamie Matlock, is a deserving recipient of this scholarship. His journey reflects a prime example of the important bonds between excellence in academic pursuits, athletic dedication, and resultant opportunities.
