The Bowling Green Rock Band Academy had its annual Winter Showcase on Sunday afternoon at the White Squirrel Brewery. The event was filled with energy, enthusiasm, and most importantly, a lot of rock and roll. These students showcased their musical talents and passion, proving that age is nothing but a number when it comes to rocking out and having fun.
The academy students, ranging from newcomers to advanced musicians, were divided into different groups which rehearsed for nine weeks. Each band was given the freedom to choose their songs and genres, giving every member the opportunity to shine and show what they had to offer. According to Matthew DeVore, Co-Founder of the academy, the experience goes beyond just learning music. They get to learn how to play in a band, to explore different instruments, and to form lasting friendships. “As soon as they get done with that set, they’ve finished playing those songs together, they always walk off just like really proud, a little stronger, walking a little taller, because they know that they just did something amazing.” said DeVore.
However, the showcase was not all just about performing. The academy firmly believes in the transformative power of music. It was emphasized that these young musicians were not just forming bands and playing music, they were learning a lifelong passion and understanding the power of music and how it enriches lives. This theme was a consistent thread throughout the showcase.
The Bowling Green Amplify Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to provide funding for children’s tuition for local arts programs, was thanked by DeVore for their consistent support in making such event possible. Their support has fueled the academy’s mission: to spread the love for music among local youth.
For those who may have been inspired by the talent, energy, camaraderie, and fun showcased, the academy is open for enrollments for their new season. Anyone interested in having their children join can sign up for the next season through the academy’s official website.
The Winter Showcase was a major success, and as the Bowling Green Rock Band Academy looks toward the future, it is clear that the local kids are not just making music – they’re making memories. They’ve not just formed bands, but also lifelong friendships. They’ve not just played their instruments, but also learned about the enriching power of music that will surely resonate in their lives for the years to come.
