Bowling Green, Kentucky, is in mourning following the passing of Gary Alan Rich, who died peacefully at his home on Wednesday morning, October 9, 2024. He was a beloved member of the community and is remembered for his unwavering dedication to serving others.

Community Background

Gary was born and raised in Bowling Green, a city he called home for his entire life. He graduated from Bowling Green High School and went on to pursue higher education at several university institutions, including Western Kentucky University, Eastern Kentucky University, and the University of Louisville. His commitment to personal and professional growth was evident throughout his life.

A Veteran and a Police Officer

After completing his education, Gary made the noble choice to enlist in the United States Navy. He served the country for six years, demonstrating his dedication to his country and its values. Following his honorable service, he returned to Bowling Green, where he dedicated 23 years to protecting the community as a police officer. Gary’s hard work and dedication led him to retire as Deputy Chief. His contributions to law enforcement have left a lasting impact on the residents of Bowling Green.

After retiring from the police force, Gary continued to serve the public by providing assistance to the Federal Marshals. His commitment to public service was unwavering, and he left a legacy to be admired by many.

A Life Full of Love

Outside of his work, Gary was known for his deep love for his family and friends. He cherished his wife, Kimberly Ann Rich, with whom he was married for 42 years. Their dedication to one another was a shining example of love and partnership. He is also survived by his niece, Erin Jennifer Birmingham, her husband Seth, nephew Michael Scott Trapp, and his wife Lynn. Additionally, Gary’s brother-in-law, Pastor Lloyd Richards, and his best friend, Ricky Lewis Trapp, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins, will remember him fondly.

Gary had a passion for spending time on his boat, enjoying the peacefulness of nature. However, his greatest love was for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His faith guided him in all aspects of his life, and he instilled the same values in those around him.

Memorial Services Details

The community is invited to honor Gary’s life and legacy at a memorial service scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 2:00 PM. The service will take place at J. C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation held from 12:00 PM until the time of services at the funeral home. Friends and family are encouraged to come together to share memories and celebrate the life of a remarkable man who touched so many lives.
