Major Grant Boosts International Center of Kentucky
In a significant development that is set to impact Bowling Green, Kentucky profoundly, the International Center of Kentucky has been selected to receive a generous grant of $71,000. The funding is courtesy of the Lowe’s Hometown Community Impact Program, a five-year national project designed to revive public spaces across America.
Revitalizing Community Playgrounds
According to the International Center of Kentucky, the grant money will be employed to refurbish a playground located on its main office grounds at 806 Kenton St. The investment will not only give the playground a facelift but will also create a vital recreational space that will significantly benefit the local refugee and immigrant population.
Particularly, the grant will offer tremendous assistance to school-aged children who need spaces to practice different activities in preparation for school. Moreover, the recreational area will be accessible to adults, allowing them to partake in various sports and recreational activities.
National Impact of the Lowe’s Hometown Program
The Lowe’s Hometown program has an allocation of $100 million for the span of five years. It focuses on rejuvenating community spaces across the country and, so far, has revamped 149 community centers, food pantries, affordable housing facilities, and shelters. It has also aided in the refurbishment of 15 first responder and veteran or military family facilities.
Apart from these, 54 community gardens, parks, and playgrounds have already felt the program’s impact. This year, the International Center of Kentucky has announced that Lowe’s Hometown projects will extend their reach to 44 states, along with Washington D.C.
