Kentucky Humane Society Bags a Big Surprise

Striding right out of Bowling Green, a city known for its Corvettes, the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society (BG/WC) is making countrywide waves. Just recently, they got picked as the blessed Kentucky representative for a $5,000 grant. The grant originates from none other than the heart of country singer Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation, through its initiative – Mutts Across America.

Miranda’s MuttNation embarks on a mission every year to surprise an animal shelter in each state with the generous grant. This year, it’s Kentucky’s BG/WC Humane Society dancing in the spotlight. And it’s no secret to anyone in the city – the humane society never has a dull day.

Their Operations Manager, Brandon Taylor painted a vivid picture of their busy operations: “We do have a large operation. We have four facilities on our property: an intake, adoption center, clinic, shelter store,” he said. “I think each grant that we receive, each donation, whether it’s $100 $1,000, $5,000, in this case, we’re gonna put it to our best use.”

Taylor believes their selection for the Mutts Across America grant reflects the hard work of the entire Humane Society staff. Day in, day out, these unsung heroes work beyond the kennels to ensure no animal is left uncared for. According to him, the team’s dedication and cooperation helps keep the wheels turning and makes their mission to get every animal a home, a reality.

Now, a lot of what the humane society accomplishes relies heavily on volunteers. And its thanks to these volunteers, and the larger community, that the society often comes out on top in challenging scenarios. For instance, there was this massive hoarding situation involving about 80 Border Collie mixes coming in at once. The society went out on a limb and made a plea to the community for help with baths, medical care, feeding, cleaning and whatnot. And much to their surprise, they ended up with more helping hands than they could handle!

The full Monte of the $5,000 will go up to the shelter’s adoption center fund. It’s expected to see use in activities like basic medical care for the pets, food provisions, and running the front desk. Plus, it’ll also power backend operations and ensure that every animal, — or client as Taylor puts it — is taken care of in the best possible manner.

Perking up the news, starting August 10, the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society will be making a splash with the Clear the Shelters event. On this occasion, not only will they be rolling the red carpet for homeless pets but also offering adoptions at discounted prices.

For all those looking to adopt a pet or simply put their bit towards helping the shelter out, be sure to visit the Humane Society website. With this year’s trend of surprises, who knows what miracle your visit could unfold!
