The much-anticipated Jackrabbit Jog has been postponed following severe weather that struck on Sunday in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The annual 5K is held in support of the Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Foundation, with this year’s event originally scheduled for Memorial Day. Unfortunately, the severe weather caused major disruptions, leading to the rescheduling of the event.
The extreme weather conditions led to significant damage to Kereiakes Park, where the 5K event was set to take place. As such, the park was deemed unsafe for the scheduled activities due to the damage caused by the storm. Safety issues have meant that the park is currently not suitable for public use.
Organizers informed the public about the unfortunate postponement through a Facebook post. The statement read, “Due to Sunday’s strong storms and damage that has left Kereiakes Park unsafe to race on, we are postponing Monday’s Jackrabbit Jog 5K. We are working to come up with a new date to have the race. As soon as we know a definitive date, we will share it with you! Thanks for your understanding!” For more information about the Jackrabbit Jog and its mission, interested parties can visit the event’s official Facebook page.
Reports suggest that the severe weather caused substantial damage throughout south central Kentucky. Apart from the postponement of the Jackrabbit Jog, the weather has led to power outages across the region. It is expected that restoration of power could take several days due to the extent of the damage. Roads have been closed due to downed lines, and emergency services are working round the clock to restore normality as soon as possible.
While the exact rescheduled date for Jackrabbit Jog has not been confirmed, the organizers are working diligently to establish a reasonable timeline for the event. A major factor in the rescheduling will be the refurbishment of Kereiakes Park, as it is essential for the venue to be safe and ready for the event.
The Jackrabbit Jog is a key event for the PKD community, with past events attracting a large number of participants. Discussions are ongoing to provide a platform that continues to raise awareness for PKD while also ensuring the safety of all involved.
The postponement of the Jackrabbit Jog due to severe weather is a disappointment for both the organizers and the community. However, despite the setback, the community remains hopeful and is eagerly anticipating the rescheduled event. Indeed, the spirit of the Jackrabbit Jog lives on despite the adversity.
