The Bowling Green community mourns the loss of Jack F. Gibbs, a cherished local figure and antique shop owner. At 83, he leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and storytelling that touched many. His family invites friends to celebrate his life at a funeral service this Saturday.
Bowling Green, known for its charming community and deep-rooted traditions, has lost an iconic figure with the passing of Jack F. Gibbs. The 83-year-old resident passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 21, 2024, leaving behind a legacy that touched many hearts in the area.
Born in the countryside of Daviess County, Jack came into this world as the son of the late Thurston and Lena Bowman Gibbs. His family roots were deeply intertwined with the community, and he carried on that legacy throughout his life. Jack had a knack for storytelling and shared countless anecdotes about his youth in the beautiful countryside, captivating anyone who took the time to listen.
Jack’s life was characterized by dedication, not only to his family but also to his country. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, embracing the values of duty and honor. After his military service, he turned his attention to a passion that would become his lifelong vocation—antiques. As a self-employed antique store operator, Jack became a fixture in Bowling Green’s local economy, where many found treasures from yesteryears nestled in the nooks and crannies of his shop. The store was not just a workplace; it became a gathering place for friends, collectors, and newcomers curious about the stories behind the artifacts he loved so much.
Jack’s family always came first. He was married to the late Joyce Ann Midkiff Gibbs, and together they raised three wonderful children who reflect Jack’s charming personality and strong morals. He is survived by his daughter, Kecia Whittaker (married to Jesse), and his two sons, Bryan Keith Gibbs (to Lee) and Kerry Allen Gibbs (to Tammy). Together, they cherish the countless memories they made with their father, whose laughter and warmth filled every room.
Jack was also a proud grandfather to four delightful grandchildren: Jenny Gibbs, Kelsey Gibbs, Ashley Cooper (who is married to Brian), and Alexis Whittaker (engaged to Dakota Talley). Each grandchild held a special place in Jack’s heart, and his love for them knew no bounds. He was also a great-great-grandfather, welcomed by the adorable Gabriel, Aidan, Isabelle Cooper, and little Leo Talley. Jack’s family was his world, and he reveled in the joy they brought him.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jack’s life at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel. The funeral service is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, and visitors can pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. before the service begins. Following the ceremony, Jack will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida—a fitting tribute to a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, Jack’s family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital at 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. This generous gesture reflects Jack’s heartfelt desire to support those in need, continuing his legacy of kindness even in death.
As Bowling Green prepares to say goodbye to Jack F. Gibbs, the entire community extends its love and support to his family during this difficult time. Jack will be remembered not just for his charming stories or antique treasures, but for the warmth and joy he brought into the lives of those around him. He may have left this world, but his spirit will forever remain woven into the fabric of our community.
